Trivia

• There has been some confusion in regards to the Matango's name, a frequent mistranslation, "Mandako," to be precise. The Japanese spelling "マタンゴ" does spell Matango in English.
• Possibly inspired by Matango, a Japanese tokusatsu movie.
• While it likely has no connection to the Matango, there are a wide assortment of fungi which do take over and control their host's behavior.<ref name="wikipedia">Cordyceps</ref>
• There are many varieties of Matango and Myconid that look like different kinds of mushrooms (albeit, not every kind of real world mushroom exists in the encylopedia world), including a Matango variant that looks like the Undead Grey Lamentation Mushroom and turns men who inhale the spores into undead. (personal communication with Kenkou Cross).
